Poor Contact
During the rotation of a surveillance camera, the image may suddenly become blurry, stutter or even completely disappear. In a production line, the motor may also operate unstably, sometimes speeding up and sometimes slowing down, or making abnormal noises.
These phenomena may be caused by insufficient pressure between the brush of the slip ring and the conductive ring. The main reason is that the brush wears out after long-term use or the pressure was not adjusted properly during installation. Or perhaps dust, moisture, etc. in the working environment have entered the inside of the slip ring.

We can use special cleaners and tools to remove the dirt and oxide layer on its surface. And improve the working environment of the slip ring and take dust-proof and moisture-proof measures, such as installing a protective cover around the slip ring.
Overheating
If your equipment automatically shuts down after operating for a period of time, it may be because the slip ring overheats and triggers the protection device. At this time, when you touch the shell of the slip ring, you will feel obvious heat, or even hot enough to burn your hand. This is because the current of the slip ring is overloaded. When the current passing through the slip ring exceeds its rated value, excessive heat will be generated.

Check the load condition of the equipment to ensure that the current borne by the slip ring is within its rated range. If the load is too large, you can consider increasing the number of slip rings or replacing with a slip ring of larger capacity. At the same time, you can install fans, heat sinks and other cooling devices around the slip ring to increase the air circulation speed.
Signal Interference
During the process of using, especially when transmitting video, the image may appear snowflakes and stripes. And this is often because the electromagnetic compatibility design inside the slip ring is poor and the external electromagnetic interferes with the signal transmission.

We can strengthen the electromagnetic compatibility design during the manufacturing process of the slip ring. For example, use shielding materials to wrap the slip ring to reduce the leakage of the electromagnetic field. Or try to avoid installing the slip ring near the electromagnetic interference source as much as possible.
Waterproof and Dustproof Problems
When a large amount of moisture or dust enters the inside of the slip ring, it will lead to short circuits and poor contact. Either it is because the working environment is humid, or it is because the sealing element of the slip ring is aged or the shell is damaged.

In harsh environments, we should choose slip rings with waterproof and dustproof functions, preferably reaching above IP54 level. At the same time, ensure that the installation position of the slip ring is correct to avoid the accumulation of moisture and dust.
